Criteria A
2
In today’s world ATM machines are used as a common activity all over the country to have easy access to the customer’s bank accounts. This lead to the exclusion of bank tellers because no one goes to the bank as long there is an ATM machine in the area. Even inside the bank there are several ATM machines. The main positive uses of ATM machines are the ability for a customer to withdraw their cash easily. In the past, customers had to go to the main branches of banks. In the bank there are bank tellers, these tellers manually give the customers their cash. There are many negative aspects of bank tellers. Firstly there take a bit longer than ATM machines to get the money. Secondly, there are fewer bank tellers than ATM machines. ATM machines can be placed almost anywhere as long there is electricity and network. Another advantage is that it is easy to use and it is less crowded.
There is a clear disadvantage because ATM machines charge people about 3 dollars each time they use it. It also causes unemployment at the banks. Because the bank tellers are not needed due to the banks rely on the ATM, to make it easier for the customers to get their money. This cause fewer jobs in the costumer service section of the bank. However in the same time ATM machines create jobs in the maintenance department. The change in job area compensate on the unemployment.
Charging a customer for withdrawing money is controversial. many people feel that it is not reasonable to charge money to get your own money.
Criteria B /2
ATM machines are used by a lot of people in a daily fashion. The major components in ATM machines are the database, network, software, and computer. These components shape up the ATM service. In every bank there is a database of private information and what the bank accounts contain, whether it is the amount of money to the password. This database contains plenty of encryption. The database is connecter to the bank’s network. This network connects all of the ATM machines to the bank’s server which then connects it to their database. The computer in the ATM machine makes these steps possible as it is the operation device that runs the initial ATM machine. The computer runs the ATM machine but in order for all of these actions to operate correctly. Well constructed software must run the computer. The software is programmed so it can process what the customer need from the ATM machine. It could be taking money or another service such as deposit or simply taking a receipt of how much money is in the account.
Criteria C
It is vital for a society to have some equality. People from the higher class and lower class in recent times are being more separated. Differences are being more common and therefore it is difficult to have an equal society. Recent ATM fees on the rise are not contributing in this issue. Lower class people are experiencing difficulties with the fees that are being offered. Richer class individuals will not have any problems with the 3 dollar fee compared to the poorer individual as this 3 dollar is a small percentage of the money he owns. In addition poorer individuals may simply withdraw twenty dollars; they cannot afford to pay a fee of three dollars. This is a clear disadvantage of ATM machines. The high cost may benefit the bank but will cause a problem with lower class people.
It is vital for a society to have some equality. The reason is because there would be unjust treatment that may lead to protest. And it will also mean that the poor will get poorer and the richer, in this case the bank, will get richer. There would be a bigger gap between the rich and poor. We can see this happening in Africa where there is a huge ethical issue of inequality.
Also there is another issue with ATM machines, which is security. ATM machines are vulnerable to theft. Many individuals are being tricked in giving the pin code to a stranger because he offered help in retrieving their card from the tm machine. Therefore it is possible to have a swift ATM machine in a slot than to insert the card.
Criteria D:
Society must consist with equality of access regardless of how rich an individual is. By putting a hefty price tag on an ATM machine service may reduce the amount of people using it, but crucially separate the rich and poor. The 3 dollar price is not too much for a higher class person, but too much on a lower class person therefore in order for the price be fair for the two people, there must be a percentage price on how much a person owns in the account. This will give a fair price tag on both classes so it shows some equality.
The bank should have a percentage of 0.01 of the total amount of money there is in an account.
This is a feasible solution because the bank may have a similar profit but in the same time give the different classes a balanced fee. In this case a lower class person may have a $1 dollar fee but a middle class get $2.5 an a higher class can get $5
