Case study question/answer

Question:
with the reference to the case study and using your own research, evaluate the use of new technologies to:
· Become more affordable/economical.
· Improve the productivity of the employees.
· Improve the Communication of the two offices.

Answers:
1. Providing the office with a WAN will save the company (N&Q investments) the price of an airline ticket. Airlines have increased the bill proportionally as the rise of crude oil increased, therefore providing a computer and WAN for offices around the world could cut on the expenditures of the company. This only became economically feasible when oil prices increased to above 100 a barrel and also it cut down on hotel prices.
2. Now different offices around different branches of N&Q investments can communicate with each other through the WAN where workers can communicate with other colleagues around the world to complete their tasks instead of wasting valuable time taking a flight to the other side of the world, for example a flight from Buenos Aires to shanghai can be above 14 hours. The amounts of work that can be done in 14 hours give it a productivity advantage. Instead the employee can utilize this 14 hours in productive work done in the office through WAN. However there is also another issue that come across which is the time zones. Workers in Buenos Aires should work at night if they want to work with shanghai employees.
3. Here globalization is key. Different countries around the world have the luxury to communicate with other countries through simple wide area networking. Wide area networks get the offices together and closer to improve communication through webcams and headphones. Having virtual meetings can enhance the communication of offices like never before. It can also reduce the cost of flights and also reduce the time that travels consume. Therefore communicating also through chat is an advantage. WAN can give private chats between the offices, rather than the internet, it can also improve the speed of data transfer. However security issues arise with any network since it can be prone to hungry hackers trying to expose holes in the network.
